I guess maybe when you are building a new axle and have no ubolts then these would give you another option. But to remove your existing u bolts and replace them with these makes no sense.

U bolts have worked for a billion years. I was gonna use them but decided they were unsafe in my mind. If you need clearance, just flip the u bolts.

Since no one has answered why people run these, I guess I'll bite. Guys who play in the rocks have had problems with the u-bolts getting worn through from dragging over the terrain. These eliminate that problem.

i dont see how these would cause anymore axle wrap than a conventional spring perch would...

i have seen a few XJs with these and they seem to work well.

I wouldn't see how they would cause extra axle wrap etc. I just dont like the fact of driving on the road without u bolts, I'm a good welder and welds still break sometimes.

The only thing holding your axle in is your welds instead of bolts

Thats different, there is much design and testing that goes into uni.body construction. Not some hillbilly in a garage with a welder! But its your jeep, if you don't want u bolts on one of the most important parts of your rig, that's your decision. Are these things even dot legal? like I said, u bolts are cheap (10 bucks or so at the Napa by my house) and u bolts have worked on every car for the last hundred or so years. If its an offroad only jeep, it may be a different story.

And how many guys out there go full width? I can promise you most of them aren't using their original mounts. Most build their own....with a welder.

So its not just in the unibody. Lots of folks weld on spring perches, trac bar mounts, and control arm mounts.

All require this welding on the axle you seem to dislike so much.

Your axle wont fly out if a Trac bar mount breaks. I'm a certified welder, which I assume the op isn't. Ktm racer is a good welder looking at his rigs, if you wanna rely on a few weld beads to hold in your axle be my guest. I weld on axles on a regular basis and feel these are unsafe. At least when you weld on mounts for a four link they wrap the axle more and give you more surface to weld onto. Ask Ktm racer if he has these stupid things? Or u bolts.?
