At that tire size you should be running a polished 30 with at least some chromos and maybe a truss.
After last weekend I am going to respectfully disagree. Unless you are running out west on solid rock.

I watched two xj's with lockrites beat their stock dana 30's into rocks, catching air, etc... I wish to heck I had a video of this abuse. Not one truck but two.

One had 35" boggers, one had 36" tsl's. I actually went up to the guy with the tsl's and commented on his abuse of the front axle. It was unbelievable. He kept pile driveing this 5000lb boulder trying to get the diff over the top. He was actually moving the rock slightly from pounding it with is diff. It was quite a show. The crowd of people would say Oh....! like in a fireworks show everytime he pounded the rock.

I mean he was on the limiter!! He tried for what seemed an hour, but it was probably only 15-20 minutes. It was very funny. His buddy with the xj and 35 boggers was not as bad but he was very abusive also, on and off the limiter all day.

Anyways it convinced me to not worry about my dana 30. LOL

Thats very similar to the stories Iv heard of the strength of the dana 30. Iv heard alot of ppl wrongfully bash the dana 30 when its quite strong.

Would trussing the axle any help make it possible to run it locked?
Why would you consider running 36 inch tires on a jeep that doesn't get wheeled? Do you realize how much they cost? Not to mention you'll be killing u-joints, shafts, ball joints, and bearings constantly. Also without cutting your fenders almost entirely out and comp cutting the rear there is no way in hell they'll fit on 2 inches of lift. Please use your head.

I am using my head Im well aware that they are 210 a tire but the jeep will be getting wheeled alot more when 36s go on it.

Whys ever one said the d30 is so bad Iv heard several ppl say it holds up to abuse pretty well. Theres a guy here in town with 35s on a 2in kit. I may go up to 5.5in lift using the rubicon express kit. More then likely will end up going this route

I put brand new 36" TSL's on my trail jeep with a locked and geared d30...first time out I broke a stock shaft/760x ujoint, second time out didn't break a thing, third time the ring and pinion went. I've got a waggy 44 going under now.

As for between TSL's and SX's, personally the SX is one of my favorite tires out there but they are heavy sob's. But I've seen SX's take a sheet ton of abuse. I've got no complaints with my TSL bias ply's, mine actually balanced out great with bb's and are great wheeling out here on the east coast.

You are all over.

First it's 2 inches then its 5.5 ???

What the hell?

The Dana 30 will not hold up to that big of a tire locked. You'll be trashing it before ya know it.
36s is d44 territory

I've run 39 1/2" and 36" TSL's on our Bronco's and loved em'. I drove them on the highway 34 miles round trip to work and played in the mud with them. They sure do sling some mud if you have the power to spin them.

They do flat spot easily though (more so in winter.....they plain suck in winter anyway), wear out quickly on the highway and are sometimes difficult to balance.

I always wanted to try out the SX's but eventually sold our Bronco's and moved into Jeeps that were a little lower to the ground.

Either one will make a great mud tire for you.

Its all related to the driver really. I have seen d44's break with 36irocks. If you rock crawl hard then it probably is not the greatest axle. But where I live which is mostly dirt and some rock. They are just fine.

I have twisted a stock ujoint end on a set of 30in tires. Doesn't mean the axles are horrid. I have been running 33's without a hitch.

Run it, go for it. When or if it ever breaks, then think about an upgraded axle.

I am not fond of tsl's on the trail. Really don't think they are that great.

But they look great!

Dang that sucks. Good point bout the heaviness of the tsl/sx but Im like you I love the look of the tire
