When i bought my jeep the door handle to the trunk was broken so it wouldn't open, so after taking it apart and fixing it, I drilled a hole in through the back panel by where the latch is so that I can just stick a screw driver in and pull up on the latch to release the door in case I ever needed it again since fixing it require taking the entire rear panel off to get to the latch and open it. I'd post a pic but don't have a camera.

You could tie a hanger around it or something and have it so that you can just pull it and the trunk opens.
