Default Triangle upper link??

Well seeing as I'm in the planning faze of project "Tiny" I've been reading a ton over on Pirate 4x4. And I've noticed a trend in XJ/MJ builds. The trend is Triangle upper links instead of a tri-angled 4 link. I've seen many set up with this front and rear to get rid of the track bar.

I'm wondering what the pros and cons of a setup like this are?

Like this for example:

WOW never seen that before.

Most fullsize axle guys run 2 links on bottom and a heavy gusseted single upper on passenger side only. seems to work well.

YA, but that requires a track bar..

The triangle upper don't..

I'm still in the planning stage of project "Tiny" a 2 door XJ that will have a V8 D60's Hybrid cage and 37-40" tires all on 5" lift..

oh ok. well i would see problems with the oil pan, also where the upper is mounted on the frame, looks to be almost the stock lower location, on a 3 link with trackbar, the upper is mounter much further back.

Good luck on your build!! we want pics!!

got a build thread on that pic?

None yet, not till I get the XJ to my place (hoping soon). About all I have is a brain storm thread in the build area of my site with a pic of it on the trailer where it's at now..

That set up has been used on the rear for many years. It works very well. However, this needs to be a low speed vehicle, or full hydraulic steering. it will have sever bump steer. That is why we have trac bars, to eliminate that. But this would be excellent for a crawler.

you will have fun snaking those arms around the oil pan with 5"

there is no real huge benefit to running this over say a 3 link with trackbar.

you will need to run full hydro to eliminate bumpsteer (like said) and even if you stick to low speed stuff you will notice it and hate it.

I'm not, just looking at other options..

I'm doing my build plans out on paper and looking at all possible options.

Not cause I need to, just for the knowing and learning factor..

i'd just go 3-link/tracbar and be done.

Innovation is the province of those that think outside the box. I applaud you Nick. Hope you figure a way to work this out.

I'm playing with a few idea's nothing in stone..

Right now it's research and learn..

This will be the lesser of the 2 evils in this build..

It will either be running a Dodge V10 or a Dodge V8.. And I've ran the #'s a V10 can fit.. BUT will require alot of other work..
