Do XJ's have transfer case shift motors?

Dr. Google tells this, "The transfer case shift motor is a small electric motor that moves parts within the transfer case itself to activate the various modes of the 4WD system. Through gears or a chain, the transfer case connects the input from the transmission to the rear axle and front axle driveshafts."

I do not see the part listed in the Mopar 91'-93' JEEP PARTS CATALOG 81-690-1792. But then again, the part may be under a different name.

I purchased a reman t-case. The shift motor isn't included.

 

Google is wrong. It's lever/linkage operated.

 

The google info isn't Jeep XJ specific. Not sure that is necessarily "wrong." Sounds like that definition doesn't apply to the XJ application. But I think you answered several questions with your reply. Thank you.

It's called an "encoder motor" and is used on 4x4's with push button transfer case operation. Rebuilt the complete system on my '96 Blazer a few years back. A big PIA just so you don't have to use a lever. System consists of mechanical,electrical,and vacuum operated components.

Can't use the shifter without having them, can you?

 

mine works fine light bulbs be damned.

 

"We don't need no sticking light bulbs".

 

They only ever fail when there is 3' of snow anyways...the flashing indicator lamp or better yet

will get you unstuck a lot faster.
