i was wondering i have a 1988 xj pioneer i was wondering what trans i have and if there were different trans's put in 88 xj's thanks for the help

auto it lags before it shifts and im tired of looking like an idiot after pulling away from a stop sign. first gear lag 3 to 5 seconds shift second lag 2 to 4 seconds third its a tad bit annoying

I always thought when someone said aw4 they were talking about the transfer case not the trans

Tcases would be 231, 242, or 249.

I checked the fluid and that's ok so I guess I'm just Gona rebuild another trans

You should have a shop check it out for you, it could something a lot less expensive than a whole rebuild.
