Well guys. It's been a while since I posted here. Took a new job, moved out of Indiana and back to my home state of Tennessee 5 months ago and I've been busy as hell with the new job.
For the last 4 months my daughter has been driving my Cherokee to school and back. No problems. Tonight, she was on her way back from the school after the football game (she's in the band) and a woman fell asleep at the wheel, crossed the center line, completely in my daughters lane. She reacted very well, she swerved and actually mostly left the road to try to avoid her but the other car hit the Cherokee about half way down the drivers door. (2 door XJ) and really tore hell out of her from there back.
She called me and my wife and I went to the scene. The cops were already there. When I pulled up I knew right away that my Cherokee was totaled. I could see that the rear axle was torn out and the drive shaft was on the ground. There was a big puddle of oil under her. And the body was torn up from the drivers door all the way to the rear.
She was a 1994, 2 door, 2.5L 4 banger. 2 wheel drive, manual transmission, no power anything other than steering. Blue Book value, even with the mods I had done was just over $1,000. I know there's at least $3K worth of damage there. She's gone.
But my daughter is fine. Not a scratch. I attribute this to her good reactions and the fact that the Jeep did its job. It protected my daughter.
So, now the insurance BS starts and so does the search for a replacement XJ. The next one will be 4 wheel drive. I'd really like to stick with the 2 door, I like that best. But we'll see what I end up with.
It sucks not having a Cherokee anymore. I had that XJ since 1994. I bought it right off the lot brand new. All but maybe 500 of the 238,864 miles on her were put on with my *** in the drivers seat.

Thanks guys! My daughter is now going through the "what if's" in her mind. Like, what if I hadn't seen the other car cross the line? What if she had left the school just 10 seconds later maybe the whole thing might not have happened. What if it had been a head on?
I'm just glad she saw it coming and reacted as well as she did. It saved her. The other driver falling asleep is sad. It's sad that there are people out there driving when they know full well they shouldn't be driving.

I totaled my first xj. Dude crossed the center line in a big ***** Dodge a hit me right at the driver door. Flipped twice and the doctors and EMTs said I'd be dead if I didn't have my seatbelt on. That old 93 4dr saved my life that's why I had to stay in the jeep family when I got my 97. Glad your daughters alright, car accidents are scary.
If you post a lot of pictures, I'll tell you if it is repairable. Sometimes cars look really bad after accident, but they are easy to repair.
Sometimes opposite.
Sometimes opposite.

good thing youre wife dosent read the forum she might have something to say about you describeing the damage before mentioning that youre girl survived without any injury lol
Glad she is ok. Not a bad idea to have her get xrayed or whatever many injuries can take several days to manifest themselves. not saying you should sue but at least make sure before you sign anything releasing them from further responsibility
