Tire Question - Used 31's
I found a set of 4 31s on Craigslist that have about 50% tread and he only wants $75 for them. My question/issue with them is that they've been sitting about a year and I'm wondering if they'll have any issues mounting up to my 1999 stock rims. I saw them for the great price and thought I would buy until I get my lift.(I realize they won't fit without a lot of trimming). Sorry if this has been answered before but I looked and didn't find anything. Their exact size is 31 10.5 r15

Check for cracks and dry rot. Also check the date code.
For driving 60 mph with family, I only buy new tires.

I see cracks in the sidewall and between tread. If you want to scare yourself away, fold/pinch the sidewall and watch all the cracks open up.
Fine for a trail rig but I would not run the highway.

Must agree with others those are only good for burning brush piles 8>)
I have bought some used 35's were expensive tires to mount on beadlocks that I bought used also. I re-grooved them for trail use (Only) when I trailer the XJ to where we are going to. They are excellent for that and a member here turned me onto that idea for this kind of tire, had did a lot of it for dirt track tires in the past.
For a DD buy new tires just shop around local shops can and do have sales at times. When going to a 31-35" tire you really need an 8" rim for them to take advantage of the extra width and so you can air down some on the trail for better traction/ride.

FWIW, Gillette Kodiak tires are a Bridgestone brand.
in the early 1900's, Gillette was one of the world's largest OE tire suppliers, and US Rubber after that was a big deal as well. Once mighty--now a questionable bargain brand.
- Gillette Safety Tire Company was from Eau Claire, Wisconsin and was bought-out by US Rubber Company in 1916.
- In 1961, US Rubber became Uniroyal.
- In 85, a hostile takeover merged Uniroyal and Goodrich.
- In 1990, Michelin bought Uniroyal-Goodrich.
- At various points throughout the century, bits and pieces of what was US Rubber got sold-off to Bridgestone, and I guess the Gillette brand was one of them.

Well thank you all for the replies and advice. I definitely will not be buying them. As for the brand I guess you learn something new everyday
