Time to Bedline the XJ
I know there are a million threads on this so I figured i'd start another one! I have a musty smell inside my XJ. I believe it is from the carpets gets wet and being 15 years old. I also have removable doors and a leaky hatch so that is not helping. I want to rip out all of the carpet and clean and bedline the interior. This is a mostly rust free jeep as I live in WY and they do not salt the roads here. Any advice on best brands, prep work, what all has to be removed and how long it has to cure would be very appreciated. Thanks ya'll!

Just pulled up the passenger carpet. Not bad under there. Then pulled up the driver side.. Holy Cow!!! Like a sponge. With puddles of water. Water is not draining out there!! I cut out the whole driver side section the second I saw it. Can I pull off that silver square of tape or should I leave it be? Also.. Should I drill in some holes for water to drain? I'm off on monday. Will be pulling all carpet out.

I haven't decided on my drain plug situation yet--I will probably patch over the factory ones and add my own closer to the time I do the project.
For the silver mats, I removed them as much as I could. Do yourself a favor and make sure to have a heat gun ready for this. It's very sticky, nasty stuff.

I'd recommend MonstaLiner 100%. I did my quarters & rockers last year. I'll be lining my hood this summer when I help my buddy Monstaline his YJ. Great stuff, and you can wash it clean unlike some other liner products. Also you can apply it to get a rough texture or spray it to get a smooth texture. Close up of my XJ

Well I think I am going to go with Herculiner unless I can really be convinced otherwise. This is the only brand they sell out here. The kit is $80. I have read about abrasiveness and what not but also many really good reviews and my jeep is no beauty queen.

Well its all done and its been about 4 days now. Really glad to have that carpet out and the bedliner in. I can see how it will be a pain to clean because it is so coarse and therefore will definitely hold dirt. I was being really careful not to get any on my hands while laying it on and wearing elbow high gloves. When I finished I took off the gloves and was happy that my hands were nice and clean. Then I proceeded to clean my brush without gloves on. D'oh!! Hopefully this stuff eventually comes off my hands.
