You know what I recommend? I recommend the XJ tie rod setup from a V8 ZJ. This setup doesn't have you using the dinky tie rod ends from the XJ with the beefy piece of metal, and it has a better adjustment sleeve.

Anyone happen to know the part numbers for a 1996 xjs Tie rod ends?

Just buy a set from a mid 90 V-8 Grand Cherokee direct boil-in and many times stronger than stock. Many run them instead of aftermarket HD steering upgrade for off road and large tires, myself included. These make the stock XJ ones look like Tinker Toys.

I bought mine at AutoZone their brand (its Moog) for < $100 all 3 pcs. long tie rod, short tie rod end and sleeve.

I got all my three pieces under a commercial account at Advance Auto Parts for $68.

Way worth it to use the V8 ZJ tie rod.
