So my 79 chief with the 401 is due a new carb and I wanted to get peoples thoughts on some of the carbs out there. Right now my only requirements are it being a 4-barrel and I'm thinking somewhere around the 600cfm range.
Would be mostly used for daily driving and the occasional off road trip

I've thought about it but for the time being I just want to get the thing back out and driving. TBI is likely what I'll end up doing in the long run

You could always check out the Holley Truck Avenger series, though I don't believe it comes in a 600 cfm flavor. You could also get your average Holley and install an off road needle and seat kit and vent tubes if you have issues with it off road.
