As far as the pads and rotors . . . let me see if I can go back and find an invoice or order history for brand and cost (I had the work done last winter). I know that the pads and rotors I got I'm very happy with. No shuddering or shaking, brake feel is nice and firm, and I now stop with great confidence. I'll get back to you.
Ok, got them from Summit Racing. Like I said, really happy with them. Here they are, and I'll include the rear brake components as well if you're interested:
Rotors-- http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-AR8722PS
Pads-- http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-16-477
Shoes-- http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-B538
Hardware kit-- http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-7265K
Drums-- http://www.summitracing.com/parts/BEN-PDR0570
Remember that this is all for a 1996 XJ Sport. Most of is should be the same, except for the actual rear drums I believe (slight measurement differences).

The u-joints you picked out are the correct ones I just installed the same brand in my jeep. Timken is always a good choice for hub bearings. Along with brakes they are raybestos and both are ceramic I'd say go with the professional grade personally I use cheap rotors on my vehicles and haven't had an issue I just normally use a high quality pad

Ran into a roadblock. 1998 used the "composite" rotors. I picked "cast". Yet it says it fits 1990-98. So, are these composite SHAPED rotors that are made in cast material? Or are they cast shaped rotors that are also made in cast material. I need composite shapes rotors, but rockauto doesn't use this word. UGH. Any help?

I don't think you understand the issue, or how convoluted this really is.
The hubs MUST match the rotor type. Else, the car WILL NOT MOVE.
You will need to return the rotors and start over.
Up to mid 99, it was composite rotors and hub that matched that size.
Post 99, they were CAST. (Be happy you don't have a 99)
The Timken hubs are composite. But the rotors are not. Or are they?
RockAuto says "CAST REPLACEMENTS" Get it??
What makes it ever MORE twisted is that new CAST replacements might be made in the SIZE of composite.
So, is the CAST referring to SIZE or material? So, it's a CAST material and COMPOSITE size at the same time.
Now, try to order that from RockAuto's desc. and good luck.

Order the rotors for a 1998 XJ because the only option for 1998 was composite just like your hubs they would have to be composite if they are to fit on a 1998 :-] make sense?

I just spent a couple of hours researching this.
You can never fully trust part numbers and year compatibility. Or stock pictures...
Rockauto said "Cast replacement" which was ambiguous b/c does it mean it replaces cast size or is a cast replacement for composite size?
I stuck with the RayBestos even though they are shaped like the squared off cast rotors. I believe they are CAST material rotors that are SIZED to composite specs, but SHAPED like cast (squared off edges) That was the real confusion at first.
The Amazon link verified it was a cast replacement for composite specs.
The measurements are elusive, but I'm pretty sure the composite rotors are 78mm or 3 3/16 high. Cast are 82mm and 3 1/16 high.
The Timken hubs are fit for composite rotors.
