If its got a clean body... who cares. tires and body alone is 2k worst case you come out ahead if you rebuilt it.

Unless it runs super good, has decent tires, drives right and was kept up well (IOW, no repairs needed) I'd offer him $1400 and see where he takes it from there. 'Historic' vehicles are typically expensive to own...

The xj cherokee started in '84, but jeep made a fullsize two door version of the wagoneer called a cherokee before the xj.

So it wasnt technically a Wagoneer, or was it a sub-model? I was always under the impression those were Wagoneers. Were they Wagoneers, Cherokees or Wagoneer Cherokees?

A lot of the wagoneer is the same, but they aren't known as wagoneers. The four doors are wagoneers. The two doors are cherokees, but most people refer to them as full size cherokees as to not get them confused with the xj cherokees.

Look carefully at the photos - the fender flares are rusting through where they are welded to the quarter panel. My dad has a '71 gladiator that has the same rusting issue around the fender flares; It IS indicitave of major bodywork headaches. Otherwise, FSJ's are awesome, and I'd have one over my current XJ if I could afford to find one in decent shape at a reasonable price. They are usually 4.11 gears and have a fair amount of power stock.

I say go for it if you can get it for a decent price, the full size cherokees are rare and are sweet! Not too many larger, especially older vehicles are selling these days because of the ecomony and the high demand for gas savers. Could be another reason its been sitting, but also could be other issues already stated of course...don't know until you see it in person.
