Default Tcase vacume lines?

Hey I have a 1994 4.0 liter h.o. Model with full time 4 wheel drive....there are only two options....4 high and 4 low....anyways.....when I put her in to 4 low she'll clunk in reluctantly and about 10 feet later she will pop herself out of gear....a buddy mentioned it might have something to do with vacume lines.....advice, or knowledge of the problems severity an solution would be greatly appreciated......and get t on those trails...shoooots...

Well first off your xj has no vacuum lines to the t-case. Only pre 91 xjs had the vacuum line setup. I would check out your shifting linkage to your t-case. Wouldn't hurt to check the fluid while your under there as well.

I'm guessing you have a grand since you have an AWD t-case. Sounds like the vicious coupling has gone out. Like stated above you don't have any vacuum lines on the case. It's a NP249 and they aren't known to be all that tough and are prone to failure.

XJs didn't come with an AWD case that only has 4hi and 4low. They have either a 231 with 2hi, 4hi and 4low and a 242 that has those plus 4hi full time.
Did you do a t-case drop and if so did you adjust the linkage?

Uhh they did actually its a NP207 but not in 1994, more like 1984. And the lever had Hi-N-Lo. There was also a switch on the center console for 2Wheel or 4Wheel that engaged the front disconnect.

When it was in the Low position the switch on the console was bypassed and automatically in 4 wheel.

I didn't know it either until one day at the junk yard I seen one. Thought it was cool as hell. Had to do some web checkin when I got home to find out more about it.
