I built some tail light guards for my Jeep and was thinking of selling them here on the forum pretty much at cost for me to build them. Steel alone was close to if not more then about $50 plus the time I have into them and cutting wheels but that doesnt add alot to it as my time is pretty much free. They are pretty stout made from 16ga steel. Right now I only have them for 84-96 XJs but can make them for 97-01 XJs with a little bit of time and effort put into modifying the design some. They currently use 3 bolts th secure them to the Jeep via the original mounts and bolts. Here is my original design sketch for them.

Also included some pictures of my first prototype mocked up to the Jeep. I have pictures of how the lights will be visible thru the guard I just have to find them. Will update with those pictures asap. Till then what do yall think these would be worth. Not trying to get rich just wanna make a little extra money on the side.

Iv got finished pictures some where. I cut out slots for the lights and bed lined them. Besides bare steel will rust away like I said these pictures are the unfinished product.

IMHO; tail light guards are a waste, if you're going to bump something with the tail lights the force of the jeep is going to crush what ever you cover them with.

Seeing as you made them from sheet metal, they will offer no protection. If you bump something the weight of the Jeep will just bend them and force them in to the lights.
This is a much better option.

And for the cost there not bad really.

Finished ones are made from 16ga steel not duct work metal...... They are quite stout for the DD/Trail set up I run. I can make them out of thicker steel ie 12ga but I would need a decent sized order to be able to justify buying a full sheet of steel. IIRC JCRs tail light replacements are only 16ga steel and they hold up pretty well.

Listen, the biggest flaw in your design is that the damn things hang out beyond the body. No way in hell I'd run something that's going to be grabbing onto everything on the trail. Secondly, why bother with guards in the first place? Tail light boxes, yes... guards, no. I run old Farmboy Fab boxes. They've been bashed, banged, scrapped and only the paint and the smashed sheet metal around them show damage. My rig is not a beauty queen, I just don't want to invest in replacing tail lights after every trip out.

Ok, so you're trying to ramp them away from the hatch? What are you doing structurally so they hold up? You should post up a picture of your finished product from multiple angles. Would you feel confident hitting these things with a baseball bat at full swing? I've attached a pic of my tail light boxes for comparison.

For the record our tail light replacements use 11ga or 1/8th steel. Our upper quarter panel guards are 7g or 3/16th.
