Best of my knowledge these are custom made...they just look big from the angle...the bracket attaches to the side of the taillight by the sides near the hatch...they seemed pretty sturdy...might be better to make em slightly more compact...I may try and fab some up...I just seen these on a guys xj at the store and liked em

Bought some similar ones off ebay some years ago. They are solid stock & pretty heavy weight altho they don't look that way. They offer some protection, but I had to grind them down quite a bit where the small stock meets the large, to be able to close the hatch, which compromised their strength. And they still rub. He welded them on the outside edge where the hatch passes. Shoulda welded them inside too. Don't make the same mistake. Also, make the outside edge fit real close to the body. An errant tree/branch/rock will catch & bend them all the way back. Ask me how I know ...
There's 1 vendor on ebay now selling some similar, but he's overseas. Won't offer up better pics even tho I asked. If you're gonna make some, I can take some close up pics of mine that you can use as your guide. If you come up with a good product, I might get a pair ... but right now I'm leaning towards tail light boxes. Go for it.

To the best of my knowledge those are not off a zj...they have a really thin piece of metal that attaches to the side of the taillight...seemed pretty study despite how thin the bracket was...also had a rubber piece on the side where it wouldn't scratch the rear quarter panel in the event of rubbing against something

I just installed a pair for my 99 xj from tuff rigs off road. There made for 97-01. For only 90 dollars new, couldn't really beat the price. They seem pretty solid after i installed them, could shake the jeep HARD and they didn't budge. I think they will do the job if i back into anything, considering there made of solid steel, no tubing like some.
