Default Synthetic rope winch

Are they worth the extra cash? I'm assuming so but I'd like some input from folks who ran both kinds.

Also, I'm looking for a good vendor to get one from. Any suggestions? My new bumper is naked without one.

If it breaks it drops vs wire rope flying who knows where. Wish I had it. It doesn't like sunlight or moisture though.

Sunlight and moisture damage it? Is there a spray to help extend the life or would a winch cover be good enough?

In keeping with the winch questions..

How do you protect yours from theft? I live in a good area but everywhere I go (work, shopping etc) is pretty crappy. I work in an industrial complex so creepers are always around here scoping out vehicles.

That is one fancy screw. I'll have to pick one up when I decide on which winch to get.
