Street Cherokee
Hello everyone, I own a two wheel drive 1998 Jeep Cherokee se edition. I just bought new goodyear Wrangler a/t tires. On the stock jeep cherokee 15" rims.I have $1,200 i want to spend. Should i invest in a lift kit? Or should i invest in performance parts and pieces that make it reliable and make it a street cherokee? I like to do some off roading sometimes And i like the lifted look. I want a 2 inch lift kit but i have a 2 wheel drive jeep so??

Computer chips don't work on our jeeps. I'm not sure about the specifics as to why they don't but there should be a couple threads on it. Cold air intake would be good if it's a cowl intake and with that a bored throttle body, exhaust etc... There's a lot of performance mod threads that you can look through and see what's best for you

What street duty does this thing have? Long commute?
What size tires are you running?
Looks like you've got some sag. You can do simple things like a bastard pack in the rear and V8 ZJ springs up front to get an inch of lift. An XJ can still go places in 2WD.
If you want a niiice ride Old Man Emu (OME) has some 1" lifts that are slick.
How much maintenance have you done since you bought this XJ? Spending money on cooling system and a good tuneup isn't exactly sexy but "chrome won't get you home"

What do you really need to do to a Cherokee to make it run nicely on the street? I'd just keep it stock and make sure everything is working well. And clean it!

my jeep will be performing as my daily driver and occasional light off roading vehicle. the tires that im running are the Goodyear wrangler 235/75r15 radial tires and the maintance duties i do are regular oil change. Make sure my fluids are correct and my tires are in good shape thats the only maintenance i do. Old man emu kits are pretty darn expensive i want one but dont see the point in lifting a 2wd Cherokee. What other performance parts help increase reliability and gas mileage? Should i get different tires? I want good tires on the road that are capable of going off road. Im looking to make this into a survival street jeep that can go into the woods still.

What I'm getting at is "performance parts" like warm air intakes don't increase reliability if your battery cables are falling apart. If you have $1200 and want a vehicle you can rely on, spend it where it needs it - like on a new water pump.

Well you need to do a lot more than that... when were the spark plugs, wires, and air filter last changed? O2 sensors? Have you tested that all the other engine sensors are working okay? Ever cleaned the throttle body? Greased the steering, shafts, and U joints?

To ensure performance, check distributer cap, plugs, wires, fuel delivery(filter, lines, injectors, etc.), fuel quality and filter/intake system then oil grade, o2 sensor and invest on transmission as well as proper tire alignment. 4-wheel drive transfer case should complete the performance increase.
