Nope i never cleaned the throttle body or greased the joints or steering. Sounds fun ill learn how to do that tommorow. I had my sparkplugs and sensors and wires checked by a mechanic and he said they were okay. I dont think i want to convert it too 4 wheel drive. Too many reliability issues i want my cherokee to be bullet proof tough and reliable im looking into an extended range gas tank that holds 30 gallons. K&n air intake with a new throttle body and new exhausts and maybe a more reliable battery and a 2 inch lift and install a new radio. And upgrade all my wires (: thanks guys this place is super helpful!!!

Should i invest in a lift kit? Or should i invest in performance parts and pieces that make it reliable and make it a street cherokee? I like to do some off roading sometimes And i like the lifted look. I want a 2 inch lift kit but i have a 2 wheel drive jeep so??

If you want to keep it as bullet proof as possible keep it pretty close to stock. The more add-ons and stiff you put the more things can go wrong. To get the type of performance out of an xj like you want your looking at thousands of dollars. Tires, gears, very likely a entire built rear axle, suspension components, body mods, you'll be looking at $5000 in a hurry for just parts, not to mention, tools, and time spent in labor if you do it yourself and while Hell of a lot more if you have some one else do it.

Get the basics out of the way first. Get the motor and tranny working like a top. Fix leaks, replace rear leaves, go through and make sure all your bushings are in good shape, replace as needed, fox any rust you may have, basically get it as close to new as you can then see where you are at with your ability to fix and diagnose issues as they arise because when you take on a project like that they will arise. Also how much money is really going to cost. I don't want to discourage you but you really need to get your ducks in a row before you start a project like this and make sure your dedicated with the cash flow to do it or your going to just end up with a parts pile in the garage that used to be nice xj.

XJ-R doesn't know what woods are. That's a track Jeep in every sense of the phrase.

If you want something that will go up against a Subaru in the woods (i.e. rallycross), you best sell your 2wd and get an XJ with a NP242 transfer case. Dems the brakes kid.

I was thinking about buying this sidewinder turbo kit made for jeeps http://www.fourwheeler.com/how-to/13...-turbo-system/ it looks awesome and increases horse power. but its $2,500 kinda stupid its like buying a Ferrari for offroad purposes. But i want it! I just want a good reliable off road capable vehicle. It will be my daily driver mainly driven on paved roads. Whats your guys opinion? Who else has a street/ performance / rally jeep cherokee?

i guess you could say mine is street/performance in comparison to most jeeps. I simply did what I could to get the most efficiency out of it while maintaining the ability to perform well in snowy conditions. so far it has consisted of synthetic fluid in everything, complete tune up, sensor check/clean, custom exhaust, custom hot air intake, and unnecessary weight removal. I did the 99+ intake swap. I'm debating new exhaust from the header back. my "custom" work is pretty shoddy due to how rusty the exhaust on it is. the jeep gets 22+ mpg and puts multiple lengths on every other Cherokee around here in a contest of acceleration. I'm happy with it. it literally runs and drives perfect. it weighed 3257lb with a half tank of gas and the spare tire removed before doing the rear disc swap.

edit: I'm trying to muster up the motivation to do an ax15 swap. I'd love to see 24 mpg and maybe add on a couple mph through the traps.
