Default Starters

the starter is going bad on my 99 XJ. I was quite shocked to see what the local shops(Auto Zone Advanced and Napa) wanted for a rebuilt starter-$150 plus core and up!

So I was wondering if anyone had tried the tear down and cleaning shown here:http://xjtalk.com/showthread.php?t=382

Is it worth the time?

My second option is a starter from eBay. They have several for my jeep for $61-$100 bucks shipped and no core return needed. The also claim that they are new! Does anyone have experience with these? Are they any good?

Third option-a local scrap yard has one that was tested for $45 bucks

Hell on that link you posted I see them for $75 with a $10 core. It might have something to do with location, though, since mine is pulling up the local store off your link.

Try part number DLG8521MS

I am in Portage Co and shop at the Streetsboro store.
When I click on your link it says item wont fit my vehicle and when I click on items that will fit it takes me back to the 159 dollar starter.

I retract my previous post, I was looking at starters for my 97, not the 99. Wow the price difference.

The new style have a different terminal for the small "start" wire going to the solenoid..... buy the older style starter and crimp on the right terminal end on the small wire going to the starter solenoid and your back in business with the cheaper starter.

Im running a $15 JY starter off a 90 model on my 2001.....

Well, one junkyard starter and one junkyard battery and my piece of junk is back in business.

60 day warranty on the starter and 90 days on the battery. not bad for 65 bucks.
