Squealing Compressor Clutch
Hi, I have 2000 Jeep Cherokee Classic and the clutch on the air compressor squeals when it's engaged. The weird thing about this is that I've seen on other compressors that the clutch sits out away from the pulley with enough room to fit a feller gauge in between. Mine sits in far enough to where it's flush with the pulley. Is this normal or should I take it off and put spacers on the shaft? My thoughts were that maybe that was why it's squealing.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.
So that would mean that when the clutch engages, the compressor is seizing and doesn't spin right causing the belt slip? Is the only fix for that a new compressor? Because sometimes it'll spin just fine and other times it will drag a little and squeal.
well. I only ask bc I thought mine was doing the same thing. but as it turns out I simply didn't have the serp belt tight enough. when the ac comp engaged it would cause the belt to squeal. I replaced the belt and reinstalled it tighter than before and it fixed my problem.
