I would recommend only one... you have to have a certain amount of distance between the two of them to prevent interference and the jeep.just isn't wide enough.

Very good article. I wasn't going to run a two stick set up but this article has made me wavier. I was going to run a fire stick at the back corner but now I'm unsure. Should I go with the whip? Most of the time I would only use the CB while on the trail so I would think reaching out 5 or 6 miles should do me fine, would a normal fire stick reach that distence?

I would say as long as you run minimum 3 foot whip you should be fine... when I was driving truck I was told to run 16 ft of cable.. I dunno if that makes a difference but I was told that by a few cb shops so that's what I have.. I run a 2 ft whip on my xj and I have it in the back and I don't have problems

I ran 2 on the back of my rig, 1 one each side there were 4' fiberglass antennas from radioshack, i really dont think i got anymore distance out of them, cleared the voice a up a little tho. but anyways im only running 1 now that is mounted up higher, along with a cobra cb from walmart. think the dual antenna is more of a big truck thing..
heres a old pic i found from a few years ago

Are you a trucker? I would go with zero antennas. Just my opinion.

What does being a trucker have to do with anything? Well over half the ppl on here have cbs. How do u expect to talk to the guy ur wheeling with? Im not gonna call him on his cell every 2 mins. A simple cb and a single antenna is all u need. And if u dont like the antenna get one of those magnetic ones and take it off when not in use. Unless u wheel by urself wich is stupid, or u have a mall crawler then go with no antenna..

Hard to use a CB with no antenna....

If it is just for the trail as single smaller antenna should be fine. I can't imagine you would need more than a couple of miles on the trails anyways.

Does the antenna have to be mounted to metal? I have it mounted to the plastic on the rear and I get almost no reception just static?

Yeah, it needs to be mounted to metal. The mount acts as the ground.
