Where is it mounted? To the end of the rear bumper? You can try running a ground wire from the mount to the body but the best would be to mount it directly to a metal surface.

Yeah I just happened to have an fiberglass whip laying around when I put the CB in my XJ. I have it mounted in the normal spot (above the tail light) on the driver's side. I wack plenty of trees with it.

Here is mine (I really need a better picture, what looks like rust is dirt). I do not have pictures of the mounting area. I drilled a couple holes into the body above the light and used 1 of the mounting bolts for the taillight. With the tail light removed you can reach inside the body panel to bolt on the bracket, or like some people use self tapping sheet metal screws.

I bought my mount from him on this site. Works great and I added to it a wire cable band ( like the ones that are on older vehicles ) to make sure it was grounded. I used to have a K30 magnetic mount on the top of my jeep and it worked amazing.... just hit every thing that was above my jeep. Thinking of going back to that style.

I run a "mirror mount" which is 2 pieces of metal with a channel through the middle of it. I went and bought longer bolts and nylock nuts and mounted it to my stock roof rail in the back. It works great with no body damage

The best mounting is in the center of your roof.... I run mine on my rack (it is a custom made rack that is grounded) with a 102" whip and a cheap CB i get about 25-30 miles on open road. about 7 miles on the trail

The heigher u mount it along with a good ground will always get u the best signal. But if ur just using it for trails then at most u would need is about 10 mile range. I have mine mounted on the side of my tail light it sticks out about 2.5 feet over the roof and that gets me plenty of signal on and off the trail
