So today I decided I wanted to paint front and rear endcaps. First I cut the lower section of them off to look like my jeeps higher. and back I left alone. I was Wondering on how i could remove the side trim if it is just stick on or clip on. I have a 2000 XJ sport. Also i was wondering if the back of the axles the plate's on the or covers. Can i remove those and paint them?

Your post should be in OEM tech, and a mod will be by later to lock the tread.everyone here would be more than happy to help you through your project...as long as the site rules are adheared too, and items are posted in the correct section(this also increases "traffic"through your thread.

as for the covers, yes you can remove and paint, but whn you pull them, you will end up draining the axle fluid, so have some on hand and a drain pan.

Yes please learn to post in correct section before everybody hates on you, this site is great and everybody is a big help...

side molding on your doors are stuck on with 3M tape, grab a few plastic knives (white picnic style), or plastic putty knife, lift up end edge of molding and pull out abit while sawing away at 3M tape, some of it might pull off with molding pay attention to this so you have less to clean off, and go slow to promote this (I assume you want it off forever, again looks better) if your pulling them to paint them, just leave them on and mask them off to paint...

Nobody will hate you. everyone is friendly here. you wouldnt be the only person that posts in the wrong section. but it does make everything a hell of a lot easier when they are in the right section and welcome. Easier and faster way to remove the side trim is to use a heat gun - hair dryer works well for this - and some 3M adhesive remover. An easy way to get any excess tape off that's left after pulling teh side trim is to use the 3M adhesive remover and a plastic chisel (usually red in color and can be bought at Pepboys/AdvancedAuto/Autozone). Doing this method keeps you from scratching into the paint while removing the trim.

 

Yeah got it done used a hair dryer and my bare hands

 

good times, I was in the driveway with no extension cord, that's why i didn't use a hair dryer... it looks a hundred times better without them

You can try goo gone and wd40, but nothing works as well as 3m adhesive remover, and a hair dryer. if you dont have a hair dryer you can drop a little of the 3m remover between the trim and the door. LEt it sit for a minute and it will loosen up. Go slow, much easier to get as much tape off with the trim then to go back in.

 

Same here. Removed mine, and it makes a HUGE difference.

 

I tried goo gone and it wasn't with it.I still have few spots left where the upper tape was on but idk if I want to use the 3m remover with the rhino guard I now have on below the kedge where the trim was
