Who here uses RP??

If so for how long have you been using it and what do you think??

For starters, I have been using RP for 3 months now in the Cherokee and I think its been great. Sounds quiet, shifts smooth, and seems that my mpg have not suffered(aka slight mpg help). I enjoy researching motor oil and from what I dig up RP isn't very popular on the a lot of oil forums. If you have a take I would love to hear it.. Thanks!

I don't run it in my xj but I ran it in my Buell. The trans shifted clunky and I couldn't do power shifts. I went back to dino oil and it was ten times better. For the same cost, why wouldn't you run Amsoil? Seems there are no bad reviews for it. RP has loyal followers and haters as I see it. Nobody in between.
For the record, I run dino valvoline (or napa brand) in my cars and I switched to mobil1 for my bikes...

I use royal purple in my Trans Am, its great stuff

in college I use to be a parts manager for Pepboys, and I had to take courses on new products, so when we started to carry royal purple they sent me to training, and from what I have seen it holds up really well, the next best oil is Mobil 1

Cool

I put royal purple in my XJ as soon as I bought it . I put it in a P.O.S. subaru that I had before & it quited down the rattling valves & did make it run smoother . I'm debating still if it's worth the cost though .

ive been runnin it for about 4 months now and i noticed better mpg and better throttle response, along with smoother running and quieter, i also switched from cheap oil to rp so it could just be that im running synthetic now also, but i think its great....funny story when i bought it i had the guy at the parts store give me the number for the k&n filter also and he looked at me and went are you sure u want that, its pretty expensive? lol i told him that i wasnt to worried about the price and held up one of the bottles of rp

I think the biggest advantage to royal purple is that supposedly it stays (at least residue) in the top end of the engine, so during start up there is less metal to metal

also I remember them testing the different oils and showing that it took 4 times more pressure to squeeze royal purple out from between these to metal disks than any of the other oils

I agree with you Captain, with the research I did these 2 facts are what prompted me to use RP. The thing that kills me is most the people who have said they disliked RP are all because of the price but seriously how is RP anymore expensive then a Mobil 1 synthetic?? They are both the same or within $0.50 of each other where I shop..

Anyways, I have had success with this product and as of yet have not had any reliable info to show other wise..

i've been running it about a year and a half now, a lot of people say you should leave the RP in a little longer but i still change it every 3k. i have no complaints about it besides the price. i truly feel it one of the best oils you can put in your engine. i started a thread (https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/roy...ple-oil-30021/) about RP awhile back because when i started using it my oil pressure went up, and its been that way ever since with no problems. i feel the general opinion gathered from the 4 pages of that thread is that RP is a good oil. oh yeah i put the RP synterlec MT in my ax-15 when i changed the fluid in like december. i can't say i felt any difference though..

not to start a debate, but test have shown that royal purple can be changed at 7K+ mile intervals with regular filter maintenance.

I saw this test where a guy kept his royal purple in his engine for ~15K, just changed his filter every 5K

ive been running rotella 15w40 in my jeep for the past year, it made a huge difference after going from valvoline 10w40, its super quiet, no leaks, and really good for mileage and power, i love it, AND its only 4 bucks a quart so i still have some money to get that oversized k&n oil filter

RP is good stuff from what i have heard i have never tried it before but have friends who do. I myself run amsoil 0-30 in my 01 and i change the oil at 25,000 miles on my third change now with no problems at all just redid my valve cover gasket and the valves looked shiny as new . The first change i was skeptical about there claims of 25000 under severe conditions and 35,000 under normal conditions so i sent a sample out every 5000 miles to get tested and it always cam back clean as a whistle and right in line with new amsoil. Even at the 25,000 mile test the lab said it was still able to run at least another 3k minimum.
