Hi bought another xj. The guy said a couple teeth broke off of the pinion gear on the front axle so he had both axle shafts pulled out. When I bought it he gave me the new ring and pinion for it. Now that I look at it it say d35 in the number on it. So obviously this is not for the front right? I took a pic. Let me know what u think

i got to check it and it is high pinion. i also decided to take the cover off to see exactly what the problem with it was and i see that the pinion is rubbing on the carrier. there are some marks on the carrier and the tips of the pinion are chipped. could this be a loose pinion nut? and if it is you think i can just tighten it to specs and run it the way it is? seeing how i would have to change ring and pinion anyways should i just run it till it blows?it doesnt seem like the pinion is damaged enough not to work properly. sorry took some pics with my phone then i dropped it in a puddle in middle of a downpour.
