How is recovery with tow hooks and brackets on an XJ? I am interested in a set so that I have a front recovery point for the mean time. I am concerned cuz I've come across some terrifying stories about hooks breaking and becoming deadly projectiles. Shoud I spend the $60-$100 to get brackets and hooks or just wait until I put some more funds together for a heavy duty front bumper with recovery points? Thanks for any feedback.

I have factory tow hooks on the front of my jeep and i have used them a few times to get tuged over stuff and they have held up.

Depends on how long it will be before you can get the bumper. That's money saved towards it tho. You know how much you use them, we dont.

just remember this could always happen when using tow hooks incorrectly.

First off the vid is a 3/4 ton gmc pulling out a totally myerd 1/2 ton chevy. your jeep weighs about 1800 pounds less. also they were really pulling that thing. if it's just temporary, use them wisely. take the 20 minutes to do it right rather that hurt a vehicle or someone. I have tow hooks that are on homeade brackets that use 4 17mm bolts and I'm just cautions and only use them if the rear is not an option.

I purchased a front end receiver/hitch (Draw-tite model #65009) it was pretty cheap, has two recovery points, and the hitch, and should add a little strength to the frame. Havent installed it yet, but it looks simple. I will update.

Just save and get a good front bumper with tie in brackets

Recovery with tow hook brackets work better than recovery without any recovery points.

Just don't be an idiot and let someone get a big run to ****** you out. Have them try the recovery with multiple short pulls, just hard enough to move your rig. Most recovery problems occur because to much force is used, if you don't use enough force to move the stuck rig it will still be there to try again using more force.

If you are wheeling your rig, get something on it for recovery front & rear! Do not wheel without recovery points. Seen to much damage done because of no recovery points.

never use straps with hooks always get the ones with loops.
