Default Recovery Strap

Hey guys, what are you using for a recovery strap? I know I could spend 75+ on a good name brand ARB or something but i'm sure you guys have found stuff that works. I just want to do it right and be prepared. I'm guilty of using a tow-strap for recoveries. Do all "Recovery" Straps act as a ****** strap?

yes, all recovery straps are essentially ****** straps. they will all have an elastic reaction when under load.

i have many different brands in my off road bag.

ones to consider are erickson, titan, pro comp, arb, etc.

i keep two 30ftx2 inch and two 30ftx3 inch as well as two 20ftx2 inch. there is no need to go any wider for the weight of our xj's.

but don't cheap out, a good one will last years if taken care of.
just don't use them to hook up to an axle or anything underneath the rig, the sharp ends of the bumpers or frame components may scar the strap rendering it useless.

blast the mud off with a pressure washer and wash in the washing machine inside an empty pillow case, then hang outside in the sun to dry.

don't use a strap that has dried mud inside the webbing, this acts like sandpaper and will reduce the life of the strap.
and don't use the same strap all day, they need time to reclaim their properties.

I have a rugged ridge right now and will probably buy a smittybilt for an extra one. The ones they sell at walmart and HF are complete and utter junk IMO.

If your even looking at buying a strap that has hooks on it just walk away.

I just purchased a smittybuilt 30x3?(i think) off amazon for like 30$ and it looks like its going to hold up excellent. I always keep it and this cheap back up ****** strap i got at walmart(backup only if im in a situation) under my back seat.

If u get too big of one it won't stretch and act like a ****** strap. Sure it won't break but it won't be as effective.

and if it's a 6x30 for 28 bucks, chances are it's not a ****** strap.
my 6x30 ****** i bought for the peterbuilt was almost 200 bux. most truckers just use chains, but not around me they won't. lol.

anything wider than 3 inch is throwing money away and will be a hard pull. you might as well just use a tow strap.

remember, only reinforced loops, no hooks.
