Recommended shocks for XJ
I'm look for some suggestions on shock to buy for my XJ. I currently have Rancho 5000 in the front and stiff pro comp in the rear. I want to get something inexpensive though.

Not many folks in this section of the forum, it is for suggestions/questions about the forum specifically.
But to answer questions it is helpful for us to know some basic details of current lift/setup.

9 outa 10 will tell you Bilsteins. They are a little expensive but everybody says they will smooth your ride out. I'm getting some 5100s at tax time for around 330 shipped

I'm flagging this thread for relocation.
OP, you need to help us understand about your rig and its use. Otherwise we don't care to help you. As stated prior, ALL white bodied shocks are the same crap except for about 1-2 companies.

I'll repeat the above post like I do over and over, all the shocks that come with these kits are for the most part throw away. Cheapies like quite a few others sold under different names but same quality. There are 2 words that are usually never found in the same sentence and those are inexpensive and good. They just don't go together for oblivious reasons I'm sure your aware of.
You have seen many posts here suggesting a shock for you and as far as good it is, also it is inexpensive for what it is. Its the Bilstein 5100 and sells for around $80 give or take compared to $150-$500 range for a much better shock and some much higher than that.
Most on here are looking for a cost effective shock as I was when I bought my 5100's and have been very well pleased with them on/off road. They have an excellent warranty and a well known company name to back it up. My advice bite the bullet one time and be done with it knowing you made a choice that many others had been pleased with.
