really curious
How many of you are still driving your xj as a daily driver with the original engine and how many miles are on it? I bought a 94 5 speed 4.0 with 298xxx miles on it 2 years ago with all highway miles and I am the third owner and it now has just hit 347xxx miles all highway and it still runs great. I also have a 96 automatic with a 4.0 with 203xxx and its giving me fits and as far as I know it has been intown driven mostly and i think that I am the third or fourth owner. Now that I have opened this can of worms, i keep finding more problems but at the sametime I am learning how to fix things as I go, but the wife isn't to happy about it.
Where are you from, I am from il. and did they use a lot of oil? My 94 does but then again it has a lot of miles on it and it really runs smooth sofar. i would like to talk more but I am getting to head out the door to work.

Mine is a 99, still a baby at only 140,000. Not sure how it was used before me but it was all stock but the last 30k I've had it have been in town, offroad, trailer pulling and long highway miles so we'll see how it goes. No oil burning, a tiny tiny leak, and trans is perfect. It has the aw4.
Since my XJ is my only car, I guess it could be considered a daily driver. It is not driven everyday though. Drive it to school and back on the weekends. I don't usually drive it during the week. Parking has gotten to be hard to find during the day on campus so I don't go out much.
We've probably taken the best care of it better compared to previous owners. It's not in bad shape but we are fixing things that were broken probably since before I got it.
It's has about 168K+ miles on it.

Current DD is a '99 w/ 155K on the clock, runs like a scalded dog. Previously had a '92 w/ 279K, also ran great, and actually rode nicer than the '99 does.

My tranny just went out on me n my 96 just got it going again & this happens. Early this morning I went to help out a friend in my 94, she ran out of gas, so I go and help her out and on my way there I hit a deer and really tore up my front end and now both xj's are down, when it rains it pours. I just wish I had a tree that put money in my pocket.

Changing fluids makes a HUGE difference in life span. Sometimes a tranny will feel like it's completely toast and you put new fluid in and it's good as new.
