Morning all. It would appear that the shaft / clutch working my air con comp is stuck and when engine is on the spinning shaft and plate make a loud rattling noise, embarrassing when at traffic lights!! Have turned on air con in car which seems to put out chilled air but noise wont go away. Can I release the sorted of stuck clutch plate which i gather is magnetic? or can i just bdisconnect a switch or relay and turn the whole thing off, now its winter, or will this affect other things running in electrics or on the engine. Have done basic test and there seems to be enough pressure in pipes. Thanks, Simon

 

So, the AC compressor makes a lot of noise, whether you turn it on or leave it off? With your AC off, is the center of the compressor pulley (clutch) spinning? If so, then you probably have a bad clutch. They can be replaced, but they're not cheap.
