In the market for a Cherokee, found this rare Freedom. Anyone know if this is a good deal? has 201K miles

Only 2,821 Cherokee Freedom Additions ever made. 4Wheel Drive, 4.0 liter straight 6 engine, 3" lift, aggressive tires, 16" alloy wheels, Clean, no dents, never wrecked, A/C replaced 4 years ago. Square receiver hitch. Chrome grill. Plays cassette and CD. Luggage rack.
High miles, but runs strong and has been well maintained.

 

The freedom package was simply an appearance package - rims, no door moldings, chrome grill, and some interior tid-bits - nothing performance related. $5k for a XJ w/ over 200k on it and a rare badge? No way.

 

Thanks Matt. I'm having a hard time finding a 4x4 Cherokee under $5k here in Texas. At least one with working a/c, decent paint and interior. The ones I found under $5k need paint, tires, a/c and other work.

 

Where in Texas? Put up an area and cost and maybe some of us on here can help with your search.

 

Houston Texas is where I'm from.....any help would really be appreciated.

Found this 1998, has 145K miles on it, they want $4500 but the a/c doesnt work, the paint is peeling, the odometer doesn't work. The interior is in excellent condition.

 

Found this one in Austin, texas. They are asking $6200 but cash price is $5400. Everything works. 2000 Cherokee 4x4 classic, 156K miles. New tires, interior is great, a/c works. Looks to be very well maintained.

 

I can't get over some of these prices dealers want for these. If you take the NADA actual cash value (ACV), either there used car manager is putting a fortune in them at trade-in, or there markup is through the roof.

Ask to see some local auction sheets, and you'll see 97-99 going for less than 2K with good miles. We used to stock up on these before gas prices zoomed, and everyone wanted a POS escape.

 

Not a good deal, but better. The other thing about that Freedom is that it was lifted. I just don't trust my fellow human enough to buy a vehicle that's had the steering and suspension screwed with that much by anyone but me or someone I trust knows what they're doing.

nice jeep iv always wanted a yellow one...but it has a square receiver hitch thats the only reason i woulnt buy it those square ones suck LOL
