What's the fluid look like?

I've had good results by sucking all the old fluid out of the reservoir with a turkey baster, refilling with fresh fluid, and then repeating once or twice more. The fluid wears out and most people neglect it and don't ever think of changing it.

Good point ...what about some times it wont start with turning the ignition so I either have to bump the shifter a few times or if that don't work start it in neutral any idea here?

Refurbish your neutral safety switch aka NSS.

Neutral start safety switch, on the passenger side of the trans. Take it apart and clean the contacts.

On the outside of it? Is it fairly easy to replace?

Clean it first. They are pricey to replace and almost always just need to have the contacts cleaned. Yeah very easy on the outside.

Easy to do. Can be a pain in the *** to get off the shaft. Don't break it.
