ive been wanting to ad a power inverter to my jeep for a while now and just havent got to it and i think this is going to be my next project, it will be for medium/light use, basicly for camping and power tools, i think this is going to be a thing i really havent had a huge need for but once i have it will be used regularly
what inverters are the best for the money, on a tight budget here
is modified sine wave (?) the best route?
thanks in advance for any input

yes the mod sine wave are the best but they are about 2 or three times more expensive too. we have a 2000 watt in our semi truck (non mod sine wave) it runs my laptop , a small 700 watt microwave a small shopvac some floroesent lights. its all we need. obviously i dont run all these things at once. i have noticed that when i ran a window fan off of it it didnt really seem to get up to speed so as far as power tools its doubtfull you are going to run a circ saw or something and get the same results as if it were at home. for that you probably would want the high end mod sine wave type. keep in mind these things are power robbing ****** and unless you are just running some low wattage lights at a campsite it will kill youre battery fast. we have 4 massive truck batterys so its not so much of an issue for us. they are equipped with a low voltage alarm and shutdown feature but i cant imagine how hard i would be kicking myself i i killed my only battery in the woods watching a movie or playing playstation. so a backup dedicated battery is probably a good idea. if you live near any major truckstops you can buy them there as well as install kits. keeping the 12volt wireing as short as possible is recommended as there is a tremendous voltage drop when using dc voltage. heres some stuff to read, hope this helps sorry just to correct myself the pure sine wave are the best high end units not the mod sine wave, we have the cheaper mod sine wave I also forgot to mention that if you do buy one of the bigger ones and want to use something like a microwave oven on it you are better off running youre vehicle while you are useing it...ken

I have a power inverter that I bought off of newegg for $20... it was a one-day deal, but the price is back up to about $60-70.
I still have yet to use it. I originally wanted to hook up my klipsch computer speaker system as a cheap alternative to kickers.
I've heard it's a massive burden on the battery so I've been kind of avoiding hooking it up. Not sure what to do either.
