popping noise when 4x4 under pressure

my 1987 cherokee laredo is ingaging the 4x4 but when u start off it popps and when u start up a hill it popps,i know nothing about 4x4 but im mechanically inclined.i need advice on what it could be.

Check your u-joints, shafts for wear/play/deterioration/servicibilty.

tighten chain

is there a way to tighten my tranfercase chain for the 4 wheel drive on my 87 cherokee larado?

once im moving everything is fine but if i stop and start again it will pop once maybe twice and go just fine.

I might be wrong but I think you have to buy a new one. You could try checking your tcase fluid to

i checked the chain and put new fluid thats all good,the noise is in the front pass side.

mine has the same sound going up hills, i think its the tre on the trackbar.
