The price wouldn't be that outrageous, because it looks to be in excellent shape, but $6000 for a vehicle with 212,000 miles? Nah.

WGMG? Those "*****" you can hang from you hitch, then refer to the vehicle as a her named Carla. Might as well just call it Caitlin Jenner, you know?

Edit: I have no idea how this got posted here when I was on the what grinds your gears page when I typed it???

You know I'm glad I'm on this site so i can learn from you deal masters, because you all who can magically get all these xj's and parts for them for a bag of magic beans and hay pennies amaze me. I can tell you this has not been my experience thus far in the xj process. I bought my "un-molested" xj for $2500 which I thought was great but $6000 later not so much.

I looked forever for mine. While I didn't pay a ton for it everything that I had to do to it to make it safe to drive cost me thousands of dollars. So finding one on her that might cost 5-8kk for a tight mechanically sound rig might sound ridiculous but to be honest you're going to pay that regardless if you're not 100% sure how it was taken care of. I learned the hard way my deal was not a deal at all.

Are you taking it to a mechanic for everything that needs to be fixed? If so, that's your first problem my friend.
I got my 99 limited at an auction for $4400. Made many trips to the junkyard. And joined this site to learn the steps to fix busted **** on it.
No magic beans required.

That's the beauty of the XJ! For a couple hundred $ in tools and some investment of time, there is almost NOTHING you can't fix yourself!

About the only thing I DON'T do myself is tires and welding, because I don't have the VERY large and expensive machines/tools to do it, and I'm not interested in spending the money to only use them once in a blue moon.

Hell, I'm in the middle of regear on a JY axle, between a couple knowledgeable friends and the old interwebs, you can learn/figure out just about anything.

(Two years ago I taught myself to code in Ruby on Rails using a couple friends and the internet, too!)

Quit giving your money to somebody else to do stuff that you can do yourself! And find your nearest Harbor Freight and wait for their sales. Yeah, the tools aren't spectacular, but they do the job.

I picked this 1997 One owner never left pavement rust free 165,000 miles for $2,500 Canadian which is $1,933.00 U.s. dollars. So if anyone wants to buy it for $5,000 I would be happy to sell it to them..

I bought my state owned 97 for $2600. it had 129k on it at the time. this was 3 years ago. I spent very little money and very much time getting it where it is now. not much to see, but with exception to a couple quirks (haha) it is mechanically perfect and does not leak any fluids. if I had to sell mine I'd start at 4k.

KBB lists $1947 usd private party sale, so as long as the vehicle had some maintenance the price you paid was fair. If you think there is any possibility that anyone will offer $5k then I suggest you carry the title with you at all times & keep a cab phone number handy. lol
