Ha, well that's actually good to know. Would you mind checking it out for me? If it's rust free and in good nick, I'd make them a realistic cash offer.

Good idea, problem is places like that prefer to finance. Business model is based on their target clientele. "Bad credit no problem" People have bad credit for a reason, and these places know that.
Buy cars cheap on auction.
Sell car to customer who'll likely fail to pay.
Between down payment and one or two monthly payments you've already made your money back.
If they actually pay it off, it at an insane interest rate and you've got a 300%+ profit margin. If they they stop paying, repo the car.
Sell it again.
Rinse and repeat.
Brilliant scam, there's a reason these places are popping up all over the place.
i have been searching for a 97-01 2dr 5spd 4wd xj for awhile now. it's unreal how much ppl are asking for xjs with issues. one like i want is astronomical. id much rather swap trans in mine and that's prob what ill do. but i always feel like i need to sell it after looking at ads of other ones. $3k around here will barely buy a pos. just finding a 97-01 2dr that ISNT totally ****ed with a ridiculous lift, bumpers etc is impossible.
I'm hunting again for the same combo and found this one. I want it but do not understand how anyone, dealer or not, can justify a $3k price increase based essentially on the concept of time.
I don't understand how people don't understand this simple concept. They don't need to justify anything. The market sets the value and most sellers, especially dealers, look to get the most they can. Someone, like you perhaps, will come along and pay the price and confirm that the asking price is in line with the current value.
This is not the only vehicle on the planet that has stopped depreciating and started appreciating and it's unlikely to stop. As long as buyers keep paying more sellers will keep asking more. Some people don't realize these are in demand, or like you don't want to ask for what it's worth, and sell theirs cheap.
The rest try to get as much as they can as most people do when selling something. I can't believe my house is worth 13x what it was in '79, but if I sell it I won't be asking the $32k it cost back then. I wouldn't be surprised if the XJ becomes one of those vehicles that fetches over it's original new price, it'll only take more time.

Sooo when you sell your 90 is your asking price going to start at 10k and then slowly but surely drop to around average when no one will buy it? That's what I notice. On Craigslist, absurd prices don't fly, or really any private sale. Dealers are a different story because for some reason people trust them. Xjs really aren't worth all that much...prices are slowly going up, but their values are still relatively low compared to say wranglers.
I am no Cherokee expert but I am pretty sure they dont have 16k in upgrades
Looks like a rock jock rear axle, which definitely isn't cheap. I think they honestly could've spent 16k on it paying sticker price for every aftermarket upgrade and paying out the butt on labor. I know on my Cherokee I have a ton of money in upgrades and I got mine used, deals and installed on my own.
I seen this on Craigslist and I couldn't believe how much this guy wanted for a rolled wrecked Comanche. I just had to post it here. All not exactly an XJ Cherokee, but close enough. Same principle of somone who thinks it's worth way more than really is. Comanches are valuable, still, I just don't think one in this condition is worth fifteen hundred .
89 Comanche - $1500
1989 Jeep Comanche 4wd
condition: fair
fuel: gas
paint color: white
title status: clean
transmission: automatic
1989 jeep Comanche, Florida bed, frame is solid, wheels are original with good tires.comes with a fiberglass cap.I rolled it back in November and was going to attempt to fix and upgrade it but I just don't have the time or resources to do what I want, so unfortunately I'm selling it.
It runs, 4wd works, all it really needs is a new roof, and windshield. I'd like it gone asap so get ahold of me if you have any questions and liked to see it.
although, this does look like a perfect candidate for a four door Comanche project. If only they were asking half of what is posted then I might consider it.
Casually perusing craigslist in the Kansas City area to see how the market was doing. Came across this gem. Seems to be doing very well based off of their asking price. It's nice, but come on hahaha.

Because a lot of people here have been involved with XJs and this community for so long, they can't as easily see that this vehicle is becoming collectible. Because I am relatively new to the community, and only bought mine 2 years ago, it is a lot more obvious to me.
I paid what some are considering a "solid gold" price here on this post, because I had to. It took nearly 4 months of watching CL to even find one that matched what I wanted.
Mine was a 96 with 49k on the clock. They took 3 calls on the jeep while I was test driving it with them for 20 minutes.
At first, I thought I overpaid just a little (not enough to be upset about). But after just a couple of years, I realized I paid pretty average consider the condition and mileage.
The demand is there. The prices will continue to go up. The ability to find one will continue to go down.
LMAO, tards wars nom. I looked at the quote you were responding too and didn't realize I'm the dummy who said that. I read the quote and was like "I have a similar story let me tell it". I hadn't realized I already told that story lol. Now you got to hear it twice. Luckily you.
