Part time 4x4 is 4 wheel drive with the center differential locked. It should only be used on surfaces where the wheels can slip. Using it on dry pavement and such can result in catastrophic damage to your transfer case. You can't make it full time (which can be used on any surface) unless you switched your transfer case out to a model that had full time 4x4.

My t-case tells me I have both. I can put it into full time 4x4 or part time 4x4.

Part Time= Full time, BUT you can ONLY use it offroad, snow, lots of water on the road, gravel, dirt, etc. NO DRY PAVEMENT.

Full Time= Can be used anywhere, pavement or offroad. It allows the front and rear axles to move at different rates, whereas Part Time locks them together.

Like Dan91 said, use only in offroad conditions where road is slippery, wet, muddy, etc. If you need more pulling power you could add a locker to the rear to have each rear wheel drive if you start spinning one.
