Intro: Clearly by my post count/join date I am new to the forum, so howdy to everyone. I am 26, from Texas, lived in the jungle of Peru for 1.5 years as a missionary but now back in Texas, am now married and we have a 5 m.o. son. My goal here on the forum is to be positive, learn a lot, and hopefully be able to contribute/help others where I can. I chose CF over other forums because it seemed very family-friendly with a generally positive and encouraging attitude from everyone. I love the outdoors/hunting/camping and doing night trail mtn biking but have no experience with trails in a vehicle (other than motorcycle).
Question: Is it offensive to the trail rig community to build up an xj in 'hopes' of growing in trail experience while the majority of the time it will be a dd? I certainly hope to keep the cherokee for many years to come and want to use it to take my wife/son to see more of God's creation in the wilderness, but most of the time it will be my work/grocery store transport.

Thanks, fellas. I've seen the term 'mall-crawler' tossed around and it certainly has a negative connotation when read, but I suppose that's what it'd have to be, being our only vehicle.

There's a lot of people that use them as DD and weekend warriors. What really matters is that you're having fun. So long as you're having fun with it, who cares about what people think.

Mall Crawler is not negative and should not be considered offensive either. Just a term used rather loosely in the offroad community. Welcome from a leaf looker
and here I always thought crawlin the malls was kewl...
, I mean, they do have those little curb stops that I can flex on and such, and the recently plowed up snow mounds that I can conquer,as if I was in the Himalayans..
, boy do I gotta lot to learn...

No offense, Most of us started out DDing our rigs and they just end up being our 2nd car at one time or another. Jump right in, tons of knowledge here & everyone is really helpful.
Post up pictures of your rig/adventures & ask questions, it'll save you time & money....
oh ya, welcome.........

I always thought the mall crawler was a lifted 4x4 that was lifted because its cool to have a lifted vehicle, not intended or used off road.

"Mall Crawler" is nowhere near Big Gay Truck Land, which I'm sure Texas must have a lot of. Many proud mall crawlers on here lol.
You'll fit in quite well here. Welcome!
