I have a 88 jeep Cherokee 5 speed that is not taking off like it should and even shifting it doesn't maintain power like it did what is wrong yes I am new 2 this place and I'm a female tryin 2 get my jeep running right 4 jeep trails help plz

 

first check the trans fluid, oil fluid. how many miles?

 

I recommend looking into a good tune up. New spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and coil. If these are bad then they will cause you to have less power than you should.

 

fluids are good spark plugs and wires were just changed...it has a lot of miles its an 88 but I have changed wires replaced hoses that were not connected I bought it from a mechanic so it is all rigged up basically I just dint knw if it could b a vacuum hose or something like I say I am doing the work on it myself and I am not completely sure on some things it just recently started having this problem and I notice I am leaking some oil out not bad but leaking could that b part of the loss of power guys?

What size tires are you running?

 

no power is just not enough information to base any kind of diagnosis on... what else is going on with it? check all the obvious stuff first. Good compression? good fuel pressure? good spark? Cat flowing good? etc...

 

33.10 16's is tires and when I go 2 take off n 1st from dead still it takes off like I'm n a dif gear its just slow at any small incline I have 2 down shift and this just started recently is this more helpful other than no power LOL

 

Have you done a fuel filter?

They was on it when I bought it the only thing I have done 2 it is spark plugs and wires it ran fine afterwards and cut fenders back 2 allow space cuz the tires were rubbing when I hit bumps and removed driver door which has Been put back on do 2 rain
