Default transmission problems

hay guys im new here and to jeeps but i have some questions for ya i have a 93 jeep country with the 4.0 in it 4x4 runs a drives great the only problem i have is it will not shift by itself i have to shift it its an auto someone told me there was a box that had to be replaced under the dash to fix it i dont belive him i think its a valve or something of that sort any ideas of what it could be thank u in advance

Try flushing the transmission fluid first.
That probably won't fix it, in which case it needs rebuilt.
This goes under OEM Tech, not Chat.

You mean you have to manually select your gears 1-4 It won't shift at all?

It just hits the limiter until you do it yourself?

no i get it up to about 2500 or 3000 and i shift it wont shift on its own think its something in the tranny

go get a tranny at the JY and throw it in. problem solve for a few hundred bucks

Have a transmission shop check it out before you spend any money on junkyard transmissions and tranny flushes. It could be something as simple as the throttle pressure cable being disconnected or out of adjustment.

yeah take it in and have it tested befor anything its free at most places and it mite be a cheep fix

ok this was stupid the tcu under the dash was unpluged i pluged it in and now shift with no problem why would someone unplug it lol but hay i fixed it lol
