Hello all....
Been reading a lot of posts here and got some great info...
I am looking to buy a Cherokee but I am going to need to
be able to pull a small camper with it. From what I have
found it looks like I need to go Grand (ZJ??) with a V-8 but
I was hoping for the XJ. Anyone have some insight? I didn't
anything on anyone really towing anything....

If I do end up going with a Grand and a V-8 are the V-8 as
reliable as the I6? The wife is on board with this if it is a functional
toy not just a toy. So I need to be able to pack the kids (3 in car seats), tow the trailer and get there and back safe. Hopefully in there somewhere do some wheeling in. I can't jst sit around and "camp".

Thanks a head of time......And thanks for all the info.

You sound like you need a Grand either a ZJ or WJ.. How big a trailer are you going to pull? XJ will pull a small camper OK, but a V8 is hard to beat here. The V8 in the ZJ has been around longer than the 4.0 I6, so I wouldn't worry about longevity. 3 car seats is very tight in any thing short of a suburban, but you can't put 3 in a XJ, maybe a ZJ, never tried. Up to 3" of lift cost is equal, above that XJ is more affordable. XJ is a little more capable offroad than a ZJ. ZJ is more comfortable, more creature comforts and better seats.

an xj is an easier and cheaper platform to offroad, as for three car seats i dunno, but two car seats and a booster seat will fit in an xj

Not really. Since I have had both its mainly a seat of the pants thing. The XJ is just more Hardcore, the Grand is more refined. There are trails I run that are just easier for the XJ to negotiate. The XJ has a shorter wheel base and can turn sharper, more manuverable. Xj has better approach and departure angles.
