^^^ That's a good point, I bought mine because it was like half the price of a wrangler. Not sure I would have paid new car prices and bought mine new in 91.

I drove one the other day and it's not all that bad. I wouldn't own one but overall it seems like a good little suv. 99% of the people that are gonna buy them will drive them on the streets. Jeep is not trying to appeal to the offroaders out there they are trying to appeal to people that want a comfortable ride on road with something that is 4wd if its needed. I don't get why people are giving it so much crap. It's not like giving it the Cherokee name badge is going to effect the XJ in any way.

4-cyl KLs cost significantly more than many competitors, especially the Subaru Forester which offers more passenger space, more cargo space, more ground clearance (8.7"), better MPG, and better acceleration (compared to the 4-cyl KL), and is several thousand less than a 4WD/AWD equipped KL (AWD is standard on the Subaru).
On the other end a 6-cyl 4WD/AWD KL isn't that much cheaper (~$3-5k depending on options when similarly equipped) than a WK2 Grand Cherokee which offers more passenger space, more cargo space, a higher towing rating, more ground clearance (except the KL Trail Hawk), better off-road capability, a nicer interior, a smoother ride(at least according to the reviews), a better drivetrain, etc.
If the KL was $4-5k cheaper it would at least be competitive in it's segment but I simply can't see a good reason to buy one over competitors at it's current price point even if you are looking for that type of vehicle.

And, what did you think? I get a huge kick out of the XJ faithful saying the same crap about the KL and the Old Liberty KJ that was said about the XJ when it came out. I test drove new Xjs in 84 and 85 and they were ****. Nobody around here much cared for them until they became really cheap, lol

That and the price, even if you want a cross-over/DD SUV the KL "Cherokee" likely isn't the best option given its price point.

Why does it have to have 56,000 speeds........well OK 9,
, what's all that good for, another 1 MPG? Wonder how much it will cost to replace a 9 speed tranny if it fails out of warranty?

If i had to guess i would say around $3500 to $7500. I just see alot of trouble with a 9 speed trans. does chrysler have anything else with a 9 speed trans? Or is this their first one?

. Do we measure the 0-60 in months or years?
