I may be in the market for a good quality all weather tent that can be mounted to the roof of my XJ. Ease of set up would be important as I may need to set it up and take it down daily.

I've done a search and haven't really found anything that fits the bill yet.

Eezi-Awn, Hannibal, Autohome, are probably the better name brands. Depending on size your looking at 2-3K new.

Camping Lab, ARB and the others are basically all the same, and use a tent style fabric where the more expensive have heavy canvas. 1-2K

From experience, RTT's on the Jeep are a pita.

We have used it many times an in some horrible weather and its held up so far. Zippers are all perfect and no rips or leaks. It's all made from ripstop canvas . We can sleep 4 in the tent 2.5m x 2.5m and all our cooking gear + a table in the other room 3m x 2.5m . Fits on the roof cage no problem. I only bring the trailer when the misses and kids come along.

As you can see the jeep wasn't high enough for the tent so I put a 3 inch lift and some bigger tyres. Much better now. ( my wife tells everyone that's why I lifted it. Shhhh )

I'm in Australia. The tent is called an oztent. The roof cage I got in Melbourne , awnings in Sydney and the large room in Brisbane. That probably doesn't help you very much but I think the oztent is available in the USA . There are a couple of promo vids on YouTube.

Have you considered a hammock? Love mine ( grand trunk " skeeter-beeter pro " just hook it to your luggage rack and a tree. More comfort than sleeping on the ground and 5 minute set up
