Default Need the Experts on this

Hey everyone,

I'm on the middle of buying the donor for my 2WD and when I got there I noticed the shifter is on the steering column?!? Mine is on the console as I have seen on every XJ but this one was not!

See pic:

So my question is... can I still use this donors transmission? is it going to have the fittings in place for the console shifter? like mine has now?

Details:

Recepient: 1994 4 Door XJ 2WD 145k I-6 Auto
Donor: 1993 4 Door XJ 4x4 171k I-6 Auto

I need to know this kind of quick the guy is waiting for payment and I told him to give me a chance to make sure the tranny will work for my XJ with the console shifter.

Thanks everyone!

The only thing you might have to do, is change the piece that bolts to the shift shaft on the trans. Crawl under it and look.

If it has an AW4, you will be OK I think. Just does not have a console and floor shift. You can use yours.

As long as you aren't replacing the trans (on your current jeep) it shouldn't matter, although I believe it should be the same trans on both and in that case you can just use your current linkage and set up.

I have to replace my transmission with this one. My tranny is 2WD and the nose is longer (no Tcase) the t-case will not fit on the 2WD tranny and the rear shaft is longer. So in other words I have to use the tranny, tcase, shafts and axle from the donor.

I really hope it works... hopefully someone here will have a for sure answer before Sunday thats when he is dropping it off.

I'm buying the whole thing just for the tranny/tcase and axle, but it has to go to the junk yard afterwards... (no title)

Pretty much any xj auto trans should be a aw4.Only thing i can think of is the shifter linkage is different but might be able to fix that to use on a floor shift.

I know the 2wd tranny and the 4wd tranny are a slightly different set up but the tranny itself is going to be the same, so the linkage should just swap over. I can't say I have ever owned a jeep with the police package but im pretty sure it is the same other than the linkage and the location of the shifter itself.

Sorry if I made my previous statement a little confusing. It has been a long day haha.

Ok so I decided to go ahead and take the risk, I'm only paying about 650 for the whole XJ, I figured its worth the try even if only the tcase and the front axle work but I think the tranny will work too. I'll part it out as much as I can and then drop it off at the JY.

I'll sell everything I can... I'll start the teardown this weekend once he drops it off.

I'll start a thread for the sale items and the 2WD to 4WD conversion.
