I was replacing my rockers with 2x6 so I just turned the screws loose from the bottom side with vice grips after I cut the rockers off.

There's a tool I believe they called an impact driver. I've had mine for decades and used it a lot back in the day working on Harley's.
You place a philips bit on the end and hit it with a hammer. The hammer blow causes the bit to make a quarter turn at the same time the bit is being driven into the screw. Works great on stuff like that. Works in either direction.

Do this thought everyone had one mine is at least 45 yrs. old a MAC tools set. Makes these jobs much easier.
