Mech fan to efan back to mech
Bout two years ago I got rid of my mechanical fan to switch to dual electric. I did the swap and had no problems. The fans came on at 217 or a hair past 210, whatever it's supposed to. It worked great no overheating. So fast forward to about 3 months ago. My orignal electric fan went off balance and when it came on it shook the whole jeep like crazy. Switched it out for a new fan and it works like a charm. This week we had a heat wave and while the jeep didn't over heat, it took a tad longer for the fans to bring the Temps back down. But it did. Now im very paranoid about cooling cause I have the 0331 head. Is it okay for the jeep to run at like 217, or right before the first line after 210 for a bit? The fans always kick on and bring down the Temps under 2 minutes and if I'm moving they never come on. But I'm wondering if I should switch back to mechanical so that the Temps don't rise about 210 all that often. Should I leave it as dual electric or go back to mechanical?

The cooling system on my '96 is stock except for the NAPA #272310 clutch fan. As long as the stock system is in TOP shape you should have no problems.

217F should not be a problem. Many cars (new Mercedes, Porsche, etc) run hotter than that (220-230F) normally. But I am sure Jeep has some specs in the FSM that outline where they consider the danger zone to begin so you might want to check the FSM.
An electric fan is always better, assuming you buy quality fans that are rated properly for the application (the more CFM the better).

The fans I have are the stock efan and a one that runs 2250 cfm so around 4000 cfm I think. I read online the cherokee needs 3000 minimal to keep cool

Looks fine. That's the max mine gets with the AC on riding at continuous slow speed (not over 25mph) on a HOT day with my stock cooling system except for the different clutch fan. BUT then again we don't know the true temp without verification with a thermal gun.
