Default maaco's quality

Hey all! Im wondering if anyone has experience with maaco paint? How does it look? Good quality, lasting paint etc. All comments welcome. My Xj is in need of a paint job and my dad is offering to get me a paint job for a graduation present. I don't want to empty his pocket, thus i found maaco lol. Thanks everyone in advance.

I've seen both good and bad jobs from Maaco. It depends on what you pay and who does the prep and paint. They offer three different options, it starts cheap and then can get pricey.

I have dealt with Maaco in the past all I can say it is a hit or miss. The Maaco I went to I got the most expensive paint and it came out great only because it was a family owned Maaco. The Paint there is very high quality based on what you get, its all in the preparations. If you dont feel comfortable that someone wont sand down or properly remove the old paint you can do it yourself. Then it would cost less if all they had to do was paint it. It all comes down to if the people who work there care. Busted lol when was the last time you been to a Maaco they offer over 5 different paint quality's now lol. Ambassador, Presidential, Supreme, Signature, then there are two more I forget about. Maby more was there last year.

We had a car done about 3-4 years ago but we did all the prep work sanding and even doin the primer and then hand sanding it. We could if finished it up but the neighbor wanted it like that we did everything in about a weekend loaded it on the trailer and took it. It came out pretty good they hit the color perfect but it was stil like 400 bucks if I remember right

You get what you pay for. When I had my XJ painted I sanded most of it and then had (read: paid) them to finish it and you could tell they didn't do jack. But then I didn't feel too bad when it got pinstriped, ended up at $440 OTD.

Depends on the shop you take it too... Maaco is a franchise. Owned and operated by different people. Shop shops are great, others... Not so much.

Look for reviews if you can find any. Ask to look at some work of theirs, or check out the customers cars they have done. Most Maacos will charges $450'ish for a stage one paint job. However their clear coat package can cost up near $1000, which is a huge jump for a few extra layers sprayed on. At that price, take it to a professional, or smaller privately owned body shop. If they're work isn't guaranteed, don't buy into it.

Yes, definitely get multiple estimates. And referrals and recommendations from friends and family if you can.

With body work, it always will ONLY be as good as the guy doing the work. And boy does that vary!!!

If you go there do all the prepping yourself.

That's what my plan was. It needs to dents and stuff popped out or filled. Im not too worried about the quality as long as it doesn't chip or fade. Im leaning towards doing it myself, any tips?

Depends on what kind of look you are going for there are several people who have done really nice rattle can jobs for under $100. But, that's mainly if your going for the rugged offroad O.D. green or Khaki or(in my case) bedliner.
