Default Lucas Oil

Who is a fan or otherwise of Lucas Oil additive?
I have not bought it, just most things seem like snake oil to me. But, now from CF I learned of Seafoam and that worked great. Let me hear your opinions. Thanks to all!

lucas makes a good product what ever it may be...i'm pretty sure the oil additive thickins your oil which isn't always what you want. when i had my first cherokee which was an 89' i used quart of this stuff in an oil change and couple of times and i can't remember any real results besides peace of mind that i did something for my jeep.

This will always cause a great debate. I have and do use Lucas oil additive in my Jeep. It will not stop leaks, do not buy into the leak stop stuff.... but I had a bad piston slap and its all but gone. Now could I get the same results from using a thicker oil all together... maybe. But I do believe it made my jeep run a little better.

I used this on my 92' had bad valve seats and would smoke a bit, Lucas seemed to stop it from smoking so bad.

i've used lucas oil additive 4 times now on my XJ (with 220k) and once on my silverado (150k). so far it's been ok for the XJ. before i used lucas, i would hear a ticking sound from the XJ. after adding the lucas oil additive....ticking was no more. as for my silverado, i didn't see much of a difference.

Ive had good luck with the Lucas 5w-30 and 10w-30 weight pure synthetic(though mostly group 3 base oil, Highly refined dino oil), and very good luck with their pure synthetic Oil Stabilizer. The Heavy Duty 100% petro oil is another story. I will never use that crap again. Two XJs ive had have reacted badly, lifter noise, because its so thick. Lucas said(I called them up because of this) Their Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer(not the Synthetic) is around a 200w, which thickens your oil to much, unless you have excessive clearences somewhere, even if you mixed it with 5w-20.

If you need to thicken up your oil for whatever reason, I wouldnt use a Honey oil, but rather a thicker viscosity oil of your favorite brand. Oil companies spend lots of time and money creating formulations to work properly. those honey/snake oils just mess up those formulas.

My dad dumped some in his 5.0 a couple months back and it actually seem to slow the rear-main leak quite a bit. I wouldn't rely on it, but it seemed to help a bit for him.
