Looky what i got...
just picked up a 76 F150 4x4 with the 390, auto tranny, D44 front, 9in rear... for $400... axles are going in the XJ... and im gonna do some research on big blocks in a XJ but we will see... lol... im a chevy guy but i got it so i may as well use it if i can huh? the bed, doors, and rear HD bumper are near perfect and can be sold to make my money back... if i only use the axles ill still make money by parting it out... anything plastic under the hood is toast though... but the thin valve covers are fine so i think the motor will be fine... interior is toast too but oh well... dont need it... lol... heres the link i found it on...

i can sell my D44 rear and that will pay for my rear spring perched and such... then sell my WJ knuckles and 2 D30 front ends and i should have enough to get my front end in... and if i think i can get the big block to fit with everything else then i can sell my motor and tranny and all to buy what i need to make it happen... i was really hoping to have my jeep back for this summer but its about to go under the knife i think... lol

that big block won't be anywhere near as reliable as that 4.0

itll be lots more powerful and the 4.0 isnt as reliable as everyone talks... theres bad head gaskets all the time being blown and heads crackin (0331)... ive seen many last till 200+ but ive seen just as many of every other motor make it that far also... and ive done my research on the stroked 4.0 too... and everyone wishes they hadnt wasted the money because they have nothing but problems... so a stock V8 is a much better way to go in my opinion... heck my 90 lumina with the 3.1 that everyone hates on had 302k on it and still going strong when i sold it... all that matters is if the motor was taken care of or not... if they are then they will always go forever...

the 2.8 in my XJ looks to be original (doesnt look like any of the bolts have been turned) and the odometer shows 260k.....

wow, all those goodies for $400? nice find! and you'll defiantly have no problem with the part out: those old pickups are so easy to work on and bring in good money for the parts
a 390 in an XJ; that could be a first. i know i've heard of guys putting in the 5.0 Mustang engine into Wranglers and such. and X2 on proper engine care: it will make anything last. i'm a stickler on maintenance, so i know mine will last until the day i die, lol.

cause that would look retarded...guy down the street set a wrangler on a 96 4x4 cummins fram and shortened it... driveshafts 12in long... looks so gay cause the front end wouldnt fit either... they tried to "tube" it out with a vise and a torch... retarded...

found that from 73-79 the 390 turned more HP then all except the 460... even more HP then the 400... 195 vs the 400's 163... although it seems that dropped 60hp from the 67 to 72 390 which seems kinda odd... all the motors dropped a ton of HP... i gotta figure out what tranny and transfer case is in it... it may be a C6... and i gotta research if anyones fit a big block in a XJ... lol... without building a whole nother frame... lol

I'd rebuild that Ford if it was me. Taking that drivetrain and tossing in your XJ is a waste but that's just me.. I like the look of the old fords and if I could find a good one that was 4wd I'd rebuild it into a daily driver. That's just me though.

i thought about this also... but the firewall didnt really do its job... lol... i can see right through the dash and into the engine bay in most places...lol... would need a whole front end clip and all the engine crap... and another cab with all the dash stuff... then would want to find a cab from a 4x4 and that same year to keep it "original" with the VIN matching... just not worth it on this one... plus im a chevy guy or dodge guy (but only diesel) and deff not a ford guy... lol...

Looks like that old Ford been in a fire. Probably not much worth salvaging, wiring harness would be toast, not to mention the interior and the smell, fire smell really never goes away. Good luck on the build.
